Take 20% off these bottles from Basilicata! Taste all four this Friday

The vineyards on the slopes of Monte Vulture have belonged to the D'Angelo family for half a century.

The vineyards on the slopes of Monte Vulture have belonged to the D'Angelo family for half a century.

Basilicata’s most famous winemaker, Donato D’Angelo was instrumental in advancing wine production in his native region and garnering the subsequent international recognition awarded to its wines. A true Aglianico advocate and pioneer, his innovation led to the grape’s current status as one of the country’s most renowned varieties. Indeed, today Aglianico is often considered the only Southern grape worthy of the kind of reverence usually reserved for the likes of Sangiovese or Nebbiolo.

In the town of Rionero, Donato has been making great wines on the volcanic slopes of Monte Vulture for over thirty years, with results that have seen the Aglianico del Vulture DOC appellation’s recent emergence as a winemaking area of tremendous potential.

Last summer Vino received D’Angelo’s latest vintages which certainly did not disappoint: these four wines are representative of this unique land and Donato’s commitment to producing the best possible wine from it. Now you can enjoy them at an incredible 20% off! From the unique blends Villa dei Pini and Serra delle Querce, to the distinct Canneto and noble heft of Valle del Noce, Donato D’Angelo continues to set the very highest standards in southern Italian winemaking.

Three courses for $35 at over 250 participating restaurants

rw-banner-blog
Ask any New Yorker about their city and they’ll tell you it offers the most exciting and diverse culinary experiences this side of the Atlantic. Even so, with such a high proliferation of the world’s greatest restaurants never further than a cab ride away it can sometimes be easy to take it all for granted. But in the current economic climate, as many of us look to curb our restaurant habits, dining out is becoming more of a luxury than ever before.

20% off two Southern classics from Puglia

Carlo De Corato and his son Sebastiano are setting the benchmark for wine production in Puglia.

Carlo De Corato and his son Sebastiano are setting the benchmark for wine production in Puglia.

The heel of Italy’s boot is home to some of Italy’s greatest cultural and artistic heritage, and today produces some of its most distinct wines. Now, Vino presents two excellent examples of wines from Puglia by Rivera, a company at the forefront of the revival for wine production in the region, both at a remarkable 20% off!

The Rivera winery is located near Castel del Monte in Puglia's newest province, Barletta-Andria-Trani.

Cappellaccio, named for the crust of tufaceous soil found in Rivera’s vineyards in the upland Alta Murgia zone of the Province of Bari, is 100% Aglianico vinified in stainless steel and aged for a year in barriques of various age and a year in bottle. A rare blend of Negroamaro and Uva di Troia, Il Falcone is so-called as a nod to the thirteenth-century enlightened Sicilian King Federico II, who enjoyed hunting with his falcon in Puglia where the grapes for this wine are today sourced. This bold red wine pairs beautifully with grills and roast meats.

Located near the Castel del Monte DOC zone, 18 miles from Andria in the province of Bari, the Rivera estate was planted by Giuseppe de Corato in the early 1900s, long before the Azienda Vinicola Rivera was founded by his son, Sebastiano, in the 1950s. Sebastiano’s son, Carlo, is now the third-generation of the De Corato family intent on furthering Pugliese viticulture through Rivera’s range of excellent wines.

Cappellaccio Aglianico Riserva 2003 Rivera
was $24, now $ 19.20

Il Falcone 2003 Rivera
