Chef Patti Jackson of I Trulli and Centovini will be participating in the first annual Sunday Supper at Chelsea Market organized with the James Beard Foundation this month. According to a press release, “40 acclaimed chefs from around the country will transform Chelsea Market’s 400-foot concourse into one long ‘supper table,’ serving a farm-to-table, multi-course dinner for 250 guests.” Wow. The event is hosted by Amy Scherber (of Amy’s Bread fame) and Anne Quatrano (from Atlanta’s Bacchanalia). Tickets cost $220 ($176 for James Beard members) and proceeds will go towards benefiting The James Beard Foundation And Robert Fulton House’s Culinary Scholarship.

Roomorama selects wines from Vino wines for exclusive party

Roomorama_logo_web

Last night I was on hand to pour wines from Vino at a party for friends and clients of Roomorama.com, held at the internet start-up’s lofty East Village HQ. Launched last year by young social entrepreneurs Federico Folcia and Jia En Teo, Roomorama is a peer-to-peer short-term rental marketplace based on the concept of online social networking. Following its initial success in New York, this unique facility is now in eight other major North American cities — Boston, Chicago, Toronto, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Miami and Vancouver. Check out Roomorama’s brand new website here!

Guests tucked into fresh spicy Asian dumplings which paired surprisingly well with the selection of wines from Vino.

The event featured three wines from Vino: Gavignano, the Chardonnay-Sauvignon Blanc blend by Chianti Rufina producer Travignoli, Enrico Coser’s 100% Merlot, Clic Rosso, and the ICEA-certified Nero d’Avola by ERA. All the wines proved extremely popular with the crowd of young social networkers and media professionals in attendance. Once the last of the remaining guests had departed we assessed the damage and counted the empty bottles, after which Fede and I even found room to discuss the plight of his beloved Milan

Taste more Rivera wines today as Vino goes crazy for Pugliese

castel-del-monte-blog

Rivera vines glisten in the pugliese sun under the imposing Castel del Monte.

In Puglia, the 13th century King of Sicily and Holy Roman Emperor Federico II certainly left his mark, at least on the region’s wine. The Castel del Monte DOC is named such for the imposing castle built by the noble ruler, who would spend hours hunting with his falcon on the very land rivera-il-falcone-verysmallwhere today some of the region’s best growing sites are found. Situated on a hilltop in the comune of Andria to the north of Bari, the high-altitude and climatic conditions of the location are particularly favorable to the cultivation of grapes.

Rivera’s Il Falcone (a deliberate nod to Federico II) is a rare blend of Nero di Troia and Montepulciano, sourced from vines planted at 200 meters above sea level. Aged for at least a year in French oak barriques and a further twelve months in the bottle, the result is a bold, structured red wine which pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and roast meats.

Nicola Marzovilla invites you to I Trulli for a journey to Italy’s gastronomic heartland

Reggio Emilia's Piazza Prampolini

The Palazzo del Monte oversees daily life in Reggio Emilia's Piazza Prampolini.

Emilia-Romagna is rightly considered a culinary stronghold in Italy: a region whose best known cities — Bologna, Modena, Parma — are synonymous around the world with products which form the basis of Italian daily eating. Equally unique is to the region are its popular wines — the lively, sparkling Lambrusco is the typical accompaniment to the area’s hearty dishes and rich flavors.

Erbazzone, a spinach and cheese filled pie is a typical dish of Reggio Emilia.

Erbazzone, a spinach and cheese filled pie, is a typical dish of Reggio Emilia.

As its hyphenated name clearly suggests, Emilia-Romagna was originally made up of two distinct areas, each with its own diverse taste and style. The unified administration shares a border with a total of six other Italian regions as well as ample Adriatic coastline, acting as something of a “keystone state” between Central and Northern Italy. It’s perhaps little wonder then that Emilia-Romagna enjoys its modern standing as Italy’s gastronomic heartland.

Emilian producer Lini has been making Lambrusco in Correggio (RE) since 1910.

Created especially for this extraordinary event, chef Patti Jackson’s exclusive menu is set to feature classic Emilian dishes such as gnocchi fritti, erbazzone and bollito misto. The dinner will also showcase new vintages of some of our favorite wines by renowned Emilian Lambrusco producer Lini. Join Nicola Marzovilla at I Trulli for what is certain to be an unforgettable evening!

Dora Marzovilla’s cavatelli listed in magazine’s annual double issue

Cover design by KAWSCentovini is featured this week in New York magazine’s annual “Best of New York” issue. Nicola Marzovilla’s SoHo restaurant is listed together with eight other Manhattan eateries committed to serving the finest pasta in the city. “Mamma” Dora Marzovilla’s handmade dumplings, known as cavatelli, come in for particular praise, described as “exquisitely textured” by Rob Patronite.

Every March New York’s “Best of New York” bumper edition seeks out the best the city has to offer its discerning consumers. This year the magazine attempted to list not just the best but also the best value shops, restaurants and services, making Centovini’s inclusion doubly satisfying.
