INTERNINew York Design Week, May 14-19

Italian design magazine INTERNI has included Centovini in its annual Design Guide New York issue, released to coincide with New York Design Week, which begins today. In its 9th edition this year, the guide is composed of two parts, namely Inside and Outside. Inside lists exhibitors, exhibits, programs, awards and conferences at the ICFF International Contemporary Furniture Fair taking place at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (May 16-19). Outside focuses on New York City’s most design-conscious neighborhoods, cataloguing over 400 design stores, hotels, restaurants and cafes, bars, clubs and music venues. No such list would be complete without SoHo’s Centovini, a truly successful interpretation of a unique Marzovilla-Moss collaborative vision.

Centovini goes Japanese

Nicola Marzovilla’s SoHo restaurant reviewed on Peco Peco NY!

cccccccccc

Peco Peco calls Centovini "a gallery style Italian restaurant with an enjoyable and skillfully designed interior."

No, Centovini isn’t about to replace its cavatelli with sashimi. However Nicola Marzovilla’s SoHo restaurant and winebar is now featured on pecopecony.com, a New York-based Japanese-language food and restaurant website targeted at the city’s Japanese community. Peco Peco, which incidentally is what you say in Japan when you’re “very hungry”, describes Centovini as “a gallery style Italian restaurant with a delightful and skillfully designed interior.” We’re delighted to be featured on the website — check out the profiles of Centovini and I Trulli on Peco Peco now!

The 2nd annual NYC Wildflower Week celebrates all things green and wild in the Big Apple—the hundreds of native flowers, trees, shrubs and grasses that are found in the five boroughs. It gives New Yorkers numerous ways to connect with and be inspired by their local environment. Free activities throughout the city include: botanical walks, garden tours, ecology lectures, children’s events, planting opportunities, cooking classes, and food tastings at top restaurants. It is the largest celebration of National Wildflower Week, an initiative begun by Lady Bird Johnson, and hosted by the Torrey Botanical Society.

Elaborate processions, such as this one in Cagli, Abruzzo, are commonplace in Italian towns at Eastertime.

Elaborate processions, such as this one in Cagli, Abruzzo, are commonplace in Italian towns at Eastertime.

Easter is a magical time in Italy, not least around the dinner table. For many Italian families “Pasqua” is the most important holiday of the calendar, especially where mealtimes are concerned: it’s a chance to indulge in some of the best food of the year, both on Easter Sunday (Pasqua) and Easter Monday (commonly referred to as Pasquetta or “Little Easter”).

In Rome, revellers from around the world fill the vast piazza in front of St. Peter's Basilica to hear the Pope's Easter message.

This year, Easter arrives early at I Trulli. On Saturday, March 28, Chef Patti Jackson (right) of I Trulli and Centovini hosts a special themed cooking seminar in which she will demonstrate the preparation behind some of Italy’s most beloved Easter dishes.

Pastiera is a type of Italian cake made with ricotta cheese. It originates from the area of Naples. It is a typical cake during Easter time.

Made using ricotta and eggs, Pastiera is the traditional Easter cake of Naples.

Class participants will learn how to make classic Italian Easter favorites such as agnello arrosto (roasted baby lamb), cianfotta di primavera (mixed spring vegetable stew), pastiera (traditional Easter cheesecake) and scarcella della Puglia (ring-shaped cake baked with Easter eggs).

Donate a dollar to Tap Project

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Vino, I Trulli and Centovini ask you to help us raise funds for World Water Week

tap-project-blog1

What is the Tap Project?
Launched in New York City in 2007, the Tap Project raises vital donations and awareness for UNICEF’s water and sanitation programs.

How does it work?
The Tap Project is based on a simple concept: restaurants ask patrons to donate $1 or more for the tap water they usually enjoy for free, and all funds raised go to support UNICEF’s efforts to bring clean and accessible water to millions of children around the world. For every dollar raised by the Tap Project, a child will have clean drinking water for 40 days.

Where can I donate my dollar?
I Trulli and Centovini are among some 2,300 restaurants throughout the country participating in this year’s Tap Project. In anticipation of this exciting event, Vino will be hosting a special Tap Project tasting this afternoon!

When does the Tap Project start?
The Tap Project runs during World Water Week, March 22-28, 2009.

Dora Marzovilla’s cavatelli listed in magazine’s annual double issue

Cover design by KAWSCentovini is featured this week in New York magazine’s annual “Best of New York” issue. Nicola Marzovilla’s SoHo restaurant is listed together with eight other Manhattan eateries committed to serving the finest pasta in the city. “Mamma” Dora Marzovilla’s handmade dumplings, known as cavatelli, come in for particular praise, described as “exquisitely textured” by Rob Patronite.

Every March New York’s “Best of New York” bumper edition seeks out the best the city has to offer its discerning consumers. This year the magazine attempted to list not just the best but also the best value shops, restaurants and services, making Centovini’s inclusion doubly satisfying.
