Spring has sprung!

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Spring has officially sprung, and at I Trulli that can only mean one thing: the return of our Spring Garden Parties!

Since 1994, I Trulli has been a favorite among New York diners not just for its delicious pugliese-inspired dishes and famed all-Italian wine-list, but also for its lush back garden, one of Manhattan’s most unique and secluded outdoor restaurant spaces.

Each week our Spring Garden Party will be themed around a particular region of Italy, giving you the chance to savor local wines and foods as they were meant to be enjoyed. The series begins next Tuesday, May 4, with a celebration of the distinctive flavors of Emilia-Romagna.

Prosciutto di Parma, Parmigiano-Reggiano, Mortadella, Aceto Balsamico: some of Italy’s most exported products hail from this culinary heartland. Such strong specialties require a wine to match, which is where Emilia’s refreshing sparkling wine, Lambrusco, delivers. Yet this oft-overlooked wine region also produces some of the country’s most interesting blends. Sample some of our favorites at I Trulli next Tuesday, each paired with Chef Patti Jackson’s special selection of classic Emilian antipasti!

Wines:
Lambrusco Labrusca Bianco NV Lini
Lambrusco In Correggio Rosé NV Lini
Lambrusco In Correggio Scuro NV Lini
Lambrusco Metodo Classico 2003 Lini

So long to summer

It’s official: Fall arrives at I Trulli tonight, 6-8pm

You may find it hard to believe after the summer we’ve had in New York, but this evening, September 22, marks the official arrival of Autumn in the northern hemisphere. Which makes our Summer Garden Party a Fall Garden Party, for which we’ve selected five wines geared to help you through this untimely seasonal transition.

Enzo Mecella is one of the most gifted winemakers in the central Italian region of Marche: a graduate from Conegliano’s famed Scuola Enologica, he’s been making wine in Fabriano for over thirty years. Blessed with prime sites in the Matelica and Conero zones, Enzo’s commitment to cultivating local grapes such as Verdicchio and Montepulciano, plus a deft touch in the cellar, allow his wines to show all the essential character of their varieties and terroir.

They’re perfect for these cool late-September nights, but we’re happy to bet you’ll still be drinking them after summer’s long gone.

Noble. Northern. Nebbiolo!

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Taste five expressions of a much-loved grape variety as I Trulli’s Garden Parties continue tonight!

cascina corte fog blogThe name Nebbiolo derives from “nebbia“, the Italian word for fog.
This photograph — taken by Jim Hutchinson at the Cascina
Corte estate in Dogliani last fall — demonstrates why.

Nebbiolo: the word alone is enough to stir excitement and emotion in the hearts and minds of Italian wine lovers. Yet for all the much-deserved attention heaped upon Barolo and Barbaresco, it’s important to note also that this noblest of northern grape varieties stretches far beyond these two celebrated appellations.

Tonight at I Trulli we’ll be pouring five wines which are each an example of how Nebbiolo is used in other wines throughout Piedmont and Lombardy. From the white-vinified Chiavennasca to Canavese Rosato to the Nebbiolo-Pinot Nero blend Baccalitt, these five wines are as diverse as they are delicious. Join us tonight in the lush seclusion of our private back garden, where you can sample all five wines and indulge in Chef Patti Jackson’s famous seasonal antipasti.

The last few months may be best described as the summer that never was, which is why at I Trulli we’re determined to make the most of what’s left of this on-again, off-again season. It may be September, but our Summer Garden Parties continue this evening with five diverse wines from five unique winemaking regions, each hand-selected to suit the warm, breezy evenings of late summer.

Join us tonight in the lush seclusion of our private back garden space as we pour the following five wines and delight in Chef Patti Jackson’s delicious seasonal antipasti.
