This week Vino’s Cocktail Hour is heading down Mexico way for some salt-rimmed tequila action south of the border! The Margarita is one of the most famous cocktails in the world and the most requested tequila-based drink in the United States. But to this day theories abound as to the details of the drink’s origin. We can only determine that the Margarita was apparently invented somewhere between Acapulco and Galveston, TX, either before, during or after World War II.
Whichever story you believe, perhaps the most charming surrounds Hollywood icon Rita Hayworth (above). In her early career as dancer, Hayworth, not yet legal to work in bars in California, would regularly cross the border to Tijuana , where she would perform at the Foreign Club under her real name, Margarita Cansino. A popular tourist spot with visitors from Los Angeles at the time, it is here that the young sex symbol is said to have inspired a local bartender.
Join us on Thursday as we mix the classic Margarita, made from tequila, triple sec and lime juice. Vino’s Scott Rosenbaum will be using only the best ingredients, including Milagro Tequila and Luxardo Triplum Triple Sec.
