Château des Estanilles "Tradition" Faugères 2008 (Languedoc-Roussillon, France)
Regular Price: $15.00
Special Price: $12.00

"Tradition," which is Michel Louison’s entry-level red, is a blend of equal parts of the five Faugères appellation grape varieties: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault. Louison's large, modern wine cellar is equipped with temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks. The partially-subterranean cellar has 250 barrels, 30 of which are replaced annually. The oak barrels come from central France, and he only uses coopers who air-dry the wood for at least 24 months. This gives, he explains, the tannin in the wine the proper balance and structure.
Meant to be drunk young, this wine lives up to its name with its characteristic ripe red fruits, accented with black-peppery, cigar-sweet tastes and strong underlying mineral accents. Learn More -

After Moscato grapes are pressed, the must is cooled to 0° where it remains until a month before bottling, at which point a slow fermentation takes place. This aromatic sparkler makes the ideal accompaniment to traditional Italian holiday sweets, such as panettone, pandoro or fruit tarts. Learn More -

Regular Price: $36.00
Special Price: $28.80
Although underappreciated outside of Italy, Rosso Conero is one of Italy's oldest official appellations and among its most noble (it was established in 1967, the same year as Brunello di Montalcino). Made with the Montepulciano grape and small amounts of Sangiovese, it can have a remarkably bright, ruby color, hence the name Enzo Mecella gives to his top wine, Rubelliano. The grapes come from vineyards where yields are low (70 - 80 quintals per hectare), selecting the best bunches. After racking, the product finishes its fermentation in stainless steel tanks. In the following spring the wine is aged in "barrique" for 8 to 10 months before bottling. A further aging period in bottles rounds out the wine before it
is sold. Learn More -

Le Ragose Amarone 2004 (Veneto, Italy)
Regular Price: $62.00
Special Price: $49.60
Arnaldo and Marta Galli of Le Ragose are firm believers in terroir and tradition. For them, a wine is much more than fermented grape juice: it is a result of the land where those grapes are grown and the people who grow them. The estate-owned vineyards for their Amarone were planted in 1969 when they launched their now historic winery. They use only indigenous, naturally occurring yeasts for fermentation and they age the wine in traditional large oak barrels.
The Galli's Amarone is made from a "field blend": while Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara are the three primary grapes used for this wine, the family allows other varieties -- Sangiovese and Pinot Nero among them, depending on the vintage -- to grow in their vineyards. They believe that this represents the true tradition of Amarone, where the vintage and Mother Nature herself determine which grapes will be used for the wines. Learn More -
